What to do after Hurricane Florence

September 17th, 2018 Posted by Uncategorized

Over 1 million people were under mandatory evacuation while Hurricane Florence made landfall on Friday, September 14th.  While the storm has passed, we are now dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane (i.e. damaged homes, flood waters). Here are 5 ways you can help your local community post Hurricane Florence.

1. Donate

One SC fund

The One SC Fund is a fundraising effort that helps South Carolinians who are recovering from natural disasters. Donate here.

North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund

Donate here to help with the immediate needs of Hurricane Florence victims.

American Red Cross

Donate to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund here or text ‘REDCROSS’ to 90999 to donate $10.

Habitat for Humanity

Donate here to help raise money to renovate homes.

Salvation Army

Donate here to help assist those in need after Hurricane Florence.

2. Volunteer

Get involved with an organization that you are affiliated with or go to VolunteerSC.org.

3. Food

Did you stock up before the storm and now have way too many water bottles and canned foods? Drop them off at the South Carolina Food Bank Association or call (803) 254-4432 to find out what they need most.

4. Clothing

The state is not taking clothing donations at this time. If you have clothing items that you want to donate, bring them to a charitable organization who can make the best use of the donations.

5. Help rebuild local economy

Buy resources and materials locally to help rebuild the economy in the affected areas.
